History

Winslow Marine was founded in 1955 by Captain Eliot Winslow. After serving his country in the United States Coast Guard and in the United States Navy Captain Winslow rounded out his military career with the capture of a German U-Boat off the coast of New England in 1944.  Captain Winslow came ashore as a civilian in 1955 to start Winslow Marine.  Eliot started off his business as a pilot on oil tankers operating in Maine's Sheepscot River. As the above photo shows Winslow's first assist "tugs" were two lobster boats and the Mohegan Island Ferry Boat. This arrangement operated without incident for thirteen years. As the times changed so did Winslow Marine the tug Alice Winslow (the first Tug Alice Winslow) was purchased in 1965. Today Winslow Marine operates 7 tugs and 10 barges along the waters of New England. Although Captain Eliot Winslow passed away in 2006 his son David Winslow now runs the company.  The company has grown from piloting on the Sheepscot to a fulltime operation offering ship assist, bunkering, barge rental, and coastal towing to customers along the coast of the Northeastern United States
